What are emergency evacuation aids?

Our emergency evacuation aids are designed so that carers can offer you quick assistance in the event of a fall or building evacuation.

What are the benefits of emergency evacuation aids?

When lifts are not accessible, evacuation mats offer a safe and quick way to leave the building. Evacuation mats can be fitted to your mattress so no transfers are necessary and evacuation can be immediate.

If you fall it can be uncomfortable for you and carers to get yourself back on your feet. Whether you are inside or outside your home, lifting cushions offer a comfortable and steady solution to help you rise off the floor without any straining.

What different emergency evacuation aids do you offer?

Lifting cushions – lifting cushions are designed to inflate and lift you if you fall. Carers can roll out the deflated cushion and gently position it underneath you, then, with the air pressure remote, you or a carer can inflate the cushion to rise you to a seated position. We also offer a lifting cushion with back support so you have further stability.

Evacuation mats – evacuation mats come in various styles, including a sheet, sledge and overlay. All evacuation aids have handles for carers to lift you and straps to hold you safely on the mat or your mattress. The overlay fits permanently onto your mattress and the sheet under your mattress, so if an emergency occurs you can be immediately lifted from the bed with no transfers required. The evacuation sledge comes stored in a compact pouch and, with layered foam, it can ride over stairs and hard floors.

What should I consider when choosing an emergency evacuation aid?

Mattress style – when choosing an evacuation mat it is important to consider your own mattress to see whether a permanent evacuation sheet or overlay would be suitable.

Support – when choosing a lifting cushion, consider both the seat and back support designs to decide which would offer you the most suitable support.
