Thinking out loud for Dementia Awareness Week
850,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia in the UK, of whom 808,000 are aged 65 years or over, and by 2025 this figure is expected to exceed 1.14 million.
With this in mind it’s fair to say that dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life and we think that any piece of equipment which can help those living with the condition, and their carers, deserves to be highlighted.
That’s why we’re giving all our Facebook fans the chance to win a fabulous Memo Minder, as demonstrated by our colleague Hannah above.
Addressing the symptoms of dementia
The Memo Minder is ideal for increasing the safety of loved ones who are living with dementia as it enables you to pre-record reminder messages, which are triggered by movement whenever someone approaches the device.
Memory problems and confusion are two symptoms which are commonly associated with dementia and the Memo Minder has been designed to address these issues.
For example, if someone you know or care for keeps forgetting their keys when they go out, you can fix the Memo Minder to the door and record a message so they remember to pick up their keys before leaving the house.
It can also be used to remind someone to take their medication or even help improve security by reminding loved ones to leave the chain on their door when opening it to strangers.
Enter our Facebook competition
If the Memo Minder looks like something which would help you or someone you know live more independently at home, then take a look at our Facebook competition. Better be quick though – the contest closes at 11.59pm on Sunday 21st May!
