Simply having a wonderful Christmas time!
As Cliff Richard reminds us every year, Christmas is “a time for giving”, something which our team at Head Office have taken particularly seriously over the last couple of weeks.
As well as rewarding colleagues who have worked especially hard throughout the year in our annual “Pride of NRS” award ceremony, our team have also taken part in Save the Children UK’s Christmas Jumper Day and given generously to local charity Derek’s Tree, by donating Christmas gifts to children who would otherwise not get anything this Christmas.
Saying “thank you” at this year’s Christmas party
Every year, our Directors hand-pick a small number of people to receive a “Pride of NRS” award at our Head Office Christmas party in recognition of contributing something extra special to the business. This year’s recipients included Hong Lai (Digital Team), Hannah Wiseman (Bid Team), Jessica West (Customer Services), Alison Owen (Fleet Team), Craig Ball (Sales), Susan Bevan (New Product Development), Michael Wilkins (Finance) and Tom Marston (Telecare), who received a certificate and gift voucher for their hard work throughout the year.
After the awards were finished, everyone celebrated long into the night with a party arranged for us by our wonderful Reception Team and paid for by our generous Directors. There was even a photo booth which, of course, we took full advantage of!
Taking part in Christmas Jumper Day
One of our favourite charitable events to take part in each year is Save the Children UK’s Christmas Jumper Day. Not only does it fundraise for a wonderful cause but it also gives our team at Head Office the chance to win a festive hamper in our Christmas Jumper Day competition.
Entries for this year’s contest were strong, featuring a group of naughty elves and even an impressive light-up beard! But there could only be one winner, and this year it was the lovely Amy from our Finance Team with her VERY sparkly reindeer jumper who scooped the prize.
All in all, we raised over £130 for Save the Children UK and we can’t wait to do it all again next Christmas!
Giving back to local children
This year we have also supported a local charity called Derek’s Tree, which places a real Christmas tree in a local shopping centre with tags hanging from it. The public are then encouraged to take a tag off the tree, which has a written request for a present from a child that would otherwise receive nothing at Christmas.
After an email was distributed around Head Office, the response from those wanting to contribute to the charity was overwhelming, and our amazing Payroll Team did a stellar job in collecting the tags, distributing them and gathering the Christmas gifts from our colleagues, before taking them to the Christmas tree and handing them over to the team at Derek’s Tree.
Our Payroll Manager, Sarah Richards said:
“We took 35 tags in all from Derek’s Tree, the volunteers explained to me that the gifts were going to children of underprivileged families identified in schools and also the children of women who were living in a women’s refuge, these children would otherwise have nothing for Christmas. Our Payroll and Systems Assistant, Latasha, has worked hard organising and collecting everyone’s donations. I’m very proud of the kindness and generosity of NRS employees – it’s humbling to know we will put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas.
"Additionally, after finding out that Derek's Tree still had 100 tags left, we spoke to our Finance and IT Director, John Makin, and our board members agreed to donate a further £500.00 to the charity, which is a wonderful gesture.”
