Meet Helen, one of our in-house Occupational Therapists

Meet Helen, one of our in-house Occupational Therapists

This week is Occupational Therapy Week, and to mark it we will be highlighting the invaluable work that our in-house OT's do. We've already met Rachel and David, as well as our OTA Sharon.

Today, meet Helen!

Why did you choose Occupational Therapy as a career?

I knew that I wanted to work within the Health and Social Care sector - and just needed to find the right role. I like the practical aspect of Occupational Therapy (OT), you're presented with a problem or difficulty and you need to find a practical, viable and affordable solution to overcome it. And because we deal with people no two circumstances are the same, so it’s always varied.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I enjoy speaking to our customers whether they are members of the public, or fellow professionals.

What do you enjoy most about working at NRS Healthcare?

I like the people (aah). I also enjoy the fact that I'm working in a non traditional role for an OT. I get to chat to customers and offer advice and suggestions to their difficulties, but at NRS I also get the chance to look more closely at equipment, something I'd not had the chance to concentrate on before working with NRS.

Describe a typical day at work?

Most of my time is spent answering any questions that customers or colleagues may have. This can be either be by email, via our product advice line on the website, or phone calls.

What advice would you offer someone considering a career in Occupational Therapy?

Do it! If you enjoy working with people, their families and their carers, and you would like to be able to offer practical solutions to everyday problems, then a career in OT may be for you. I would advise getting as much experience as you can in a variety of settings, embrace and learn from each of those experiences. You never stop learning.

When you are not at work, what do you get up to?

I love spending time on my allotment where I grow all sorts of fruit, vegetables, and flowers. I also love taking long walks in the countryside with friends and family, preferably followed by a good meal and chat.

Why not get in touch with our Occupational Therapist today, to see how they can help you!
